FAZIELA HARRIS-DAVIDS:

LOOKING for something new to watch on Amazon Prime? How about something straight from Amazon Originals or the classics from the 90s, we have you covered. Here are our Top 5 picks on Amazon Prime for you to enjoy this weekend. Get your popcorn ready!

Daisy Jones & the Six

Length: 1 season, 10 episodes
Creators: Scott Neustadter, Michael H. Weber

Author Taylor Jenkins Reid was inspired by Fleetwood Mac when writing “Daisy Jones & The Six,” a fictional oral history of a ’70s rock band not unlike the actual Fleetwood Mac.

From their rise in the LA music scene to becoming one of the most famous bands in the world and explores the reason behind their split at the height of their success.

It’s a sharp, character-driven drama that gets at the tough intersection of art and relationships.

Personally, I find shows based on books very difficult to watch, however, reviews show that the series is well paced with the chemistry between the two main characters matching the book to a tee. Bearing in mind that the show differs significantly from the book.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Length: 5 seasons, 43 episodes
Creator: Amy Sherman-Palladino

After her husband leaves her, a young mother of two Miriam “Midge” Maisel discovers that she has a talent for stand-up comedy. Could this be her calling?

With a stunning ensemble, the show portrays the late 1950s to early 1960s, with its witty banter and comedic moments.

Midge, the main character, is also a testament to following your dreams despite any setbacks, what’s not to love?

Citadel

Length: 2 seasons, 7 episodes
Creators: Josh Appelbaum, Bryan Oh, David Weil

Global spy agency Citadel has fallen, and its agents’ memories were wiped clean. Now the powerful syndicate, Manticore, is rising in the void. Can the Citadel agents recollect their past and summon the strength to fight back?

It’s your typical cliché spy-gadget-dramaesque type show that you can watch as a bit of a guilty pleasure. All the tropes of Bond without Bond.

The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power

Length: 1 season, 8 episodes
Creators: J.D. Payne, Patrick McKay

An epic drama set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth.

As someone who loves the entire world of Tolkien, I find that this would make the world incomplete so it’s a necessary watch.

The Boys

Length: 3 seasons, 24 episodes
Creator: Eric Kripke

A group of vigilantes set out to take down corrupt superheroes who abuse their superpowers.

Based on the graphic novel by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, the show is superhero satire, but begs the question, what if superheroes never took accountability? Who holds them responsible, the dark comedy is akin to most superhero shows, with an amazing cast of characters.
