Warriors Star Diego Rosier on Life Beyond Cricket

The Dafabet Warriors may have missed out on a spot in the 2024/25 T20 Challenge playoffs, but their focus now shifts to the upcoming 4-Day Series which starts on Thursday, 31 October.

As they gear up for their  opening red-ball clash against Auto Investments North West Dragons at the Dafabet St George’s Park, we caught up with one of the team’s prominent players, Diego Rosier, to get a glimpse of his life off the field.

Rosier, a key member of the Gqeberha-based Warriors, shared insights into what makes him tick; from his ideal off-day to the famous people he’d invite to a dinner party.

If you could swap places with any cricketer for a day, who would it be?

With a thoughtful pause, Rosier admits, “I haven’t really thought about that before, to be honest. It’s kind of crazy because over time you interact with a lot of cricketers—some who you end up playing with or against. I’m just grateful for those moments.”

What’s your ideal off-day like, and how do you unwind after a long game?

“I’d start with a yoga session, followed by a late breakfast at home. A midday braai would round off the day nicely,” he shares, painting a picture of relaxed simplicity. But after a taxing game, his approach shifts into recovery mode. “The gym is a must—foam rolling, cycling, activation stretches, pool stretches, steam, and a shower. It’s all about recharging the body. Trust me, thank me later!” he jokes.

If cricket didn’t exist, what sport would you be playing professionally?

“Ball is life,” Rosier says with a grin. “I’d love to say soccer, but hockey was actually my first love growing up. Seeing players succeed in that sport now, traveling the world, it’s something I still admire.”

Do you have any superstitions or pre-game rituals you can’t go without?

“I wouldn’t say I have any superstition that I absolutely can’t go without. But being present and embracing what’s in front of me is probably the closest thing I have to a ritual. It’s second nature by now.”

Are you involved in any community or charity work?

While Rosier isn’t currently involved in any charity work, he’s eager to change that. “I’d love to be part of something. As a team and as the Warriors brand, we should be doing more. It’s the least we can do, and it’s definitely a challenge we are willing to take on.”

If you were hosting a dinner party, which three famous guests would you invite?

Will Ferrell, for sure. He’s mad funny and just seems like such a peculiar person.

Jhene Aiko for the tranquillity – there’s always a need for that kind of energy.

Denzel Washington, because the depth and substance in conversation would be unmatched.

As the Warriors look ahead to their 4-Day Series campaign, Diego Rosier reminds us that there’s more to life than cricket. Whether it’s yoga, a braai with friends, or dreaming up a star-studded dinner party, he knows how to enjoy every moment on and off the field!
