Rachel Kolisi’s Falling Forward Documentary Screening Inspires Gqeberha Audience

Gqeberha audiences gathered at the Boardwalk Hotel on Thursday evening for the official screening of Falling Forward, a deeply personal documentary by Rachel Kolisi that explores themes of identity, resilience and the courage to begin again.

The screening formed part of a national roadshow taking the documentary to several South African cities, offering audiences an intimate look at the defining seasons of Kolisi’s life.

A Story About Falling and Rising

Falling Forward invites viewers into Kolisi’s world through honest storytelling that reflects on loss, healing, motherhood and rediscovery. Rather than focusing on public speculation or headlines, the documentary centres on her personal journey and the quiet strength that has guided her forward.

At its core, the film explores a universal experience.

“We all fall,” Kolisi reflects in the documentary. “But how we choose to move forward is what defines us.”

Through reflective moments and candid storytelling, the film speaks to the reality of losing yourself, finding yourself again and learning to embrace new chapters with courage.

An Intimate Experience

The Gqeberha screening was designed to be more than a film viewing. The evening included a women-led market, giving guests the opportunity to support local female entrepreneurs, as well as a fireside chat with Kolisi, where she unpacked the themes explored in the documentary.

Those in attendance described Kolisi as authentic, inspiring and empowering, noting that the event created a warm and reflective space for women to connect with their own stories of resilience.

The experience encouraged attendees to reflect on their own journeys and the often-unseen strength required to move forward through life’s challenges.

A National Roadshow

Following the Gqeberha event, Falling Forward will continue its national roadshow with screenings planned in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, bringing the conversation about healing, identity and resilience to audiences across the country.

The documentary ultimately delivers a simple but powerful message: falling is part of life, but growth often begins in the moments when we choose to rise again.
