Local football talent was on full display as the inaugural Mkwayi 4v4 Tournament came to an exciting conclusion at Bhereni Court on Tuesday, 9 June 2026.
The two-day tournament brought together eight teams from the surrounding community, with group-stage fixtures taking place on Monday before the competition reached its knockout stages on Tuesday.
More than 100 spectators turned out to support the teams, creating a lively atmosphere and highlighting the growing passion for grassroots football in the area.
After a series of competitive encounters, iBisi FC emerged as the tournament’s first-ever champions after defeating hosts TAMBO FC 2-1 in a closely contested final.
The victory saw iBisi FC walk away with the winners’ prize of R240 and a championship certificate, securing their place in the tournament’s history books.
Community Football Takes Centre Stage
The tournament featured eight local sides:
- TAMBO FC
- iBisi FC
- Asonele FC
- La Masia FC
- Vamos FC
- Silent Killers FC
- Mnyazi FC
- Singaphi Stars FC
Throughout the competition, players showcased their skills, determination and sportsmanship, providing entertaining football for supporters who gathered courtside across both days.
Organisers Thank Supporters
Tournament organiser S.N. Sonto thanked all participating teams, supporters and volunteers who contributed to the success of the event.
Special recognition was given to Adumodwa Moni, Akhona Sali and members of the organising committee for their efforts behind the scenes in ensuring the tournament ran smoothly.
“The support from the community and the commitment shown by the teams made this tournament a success,” said Sonto.
Looking Ahead
Following the success of the inaugural event, organisers have confirmed plans to bring the Mkwayi 4v4 Tournament back in the future.
The tournament aims to continue creating opportunities for local players while strengthening community engagement through sport.
