The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality proudly announces that three of its dedicated firefighters will be representing South Africa at the prestigious World Firefighter Games in Aalborg, Denmark, starting on Saturday, 7 September.
The brothers duo, Alton and Riaan Senekal, along with Roland Jerling, will demonstrate their exceptional skills in the weeklong championship, competing against approximately 6,000 firefighters from around the globe in over 50 events.
Executive Mayor Gary van Niekerk expressed his confidence in the trio’s ability to represent the nation with distinction. “The tenacity of these men to continuously sharpen their skills by competing against the best in the world, beyond the stringent demands of their jobs, is a reflection of their dedication to their profession,” said Mayor Van Niekerk.
He further praised their physical and mental preparedness, highlighting the significance of their participation. “Besides risking their lives to serve our communities, they are also in top physical condition to represent our country well. I wish them all the best and will be holding thumbs that they will be bringing back heaps of medals. I want to remind them that when the going gets tough, they should find courage in the fact that: ‘Hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie’,” he added.
Alton and Riaan Senekal, both station commanders at the Kwanobuhle Fire Station, along with Roland Jerling, a senior firefighter at the South End Fire Station, are set to make their mark on the global stage. The Nelson Mandela Bay community stands behind them, confident that they will fly the South African flag high and showcase the exceptional talent within the region.
