THE IsiXhosa Music Festival is back in the Bay and promises to be a cultural explosion.
Close to two-thirds (62.4%) of first-language isiXhosa speakers live in the Eastern Cape so it’s only fitting that Gqberah is home to this annual celebration of all things isiXhosa.
The IsiXhosa Music Festival will be held at the St George’s Park Cricket Stadium on 29 April 2023. Top South African artists will take to the stage singing and performing in IsiXhosa, all patrons are encouraged to dress in IsiXhosa attire and the food served to the VIPs will also be traditionally IsiXhosa.
“IsiXhosa Music Festival is a premium event which will showcase IsiXhosa’s culture, rich history and tradition through music while building social cohesion and cultural tolerance in NMB,” said event organiser and Director of Koloni Development Group, George Meko.
“The patrons will be entertained by no less than nine national artists which will include Ringo Madlingozi, Nathi Mankayi, Amanda Black, 047, MaXhoba, ZukoSA, Ntsika, Dumza Maswana and Nomty Ngwetsheni. These will be accompanied by ten local artists.
“It is at this event where ubu-Xhosa is showcased. Everything and anything shall resemble and or reflect isi-Xhosa, from the attire of all patrons at the festival to that of the artists performing on the day, to the décor, food, and stalls,” he said.
This kind of event seeks to provide:
· To promote Nelson Mandela Bay as a Tourist “Friendly City” and improve tourism and visitor numbers to the NMB.
· To expose, grow and develop while providing a platform for the arts and culture sector within the NMB.
· To promote Social Cohesion through a lifelong interest in ubuXhosa as a basic human experience.
