Step Up in Style: PNA’s Funky Socks Day 2025 Aims to Raise R2.5 Million for SA Kids in Need

Step aside beige basics: this month marked the launch of the 2025 Breadline Africa PNA Funky Socks Day campaign, and it’s asking South Africans to stand tall (and bright) in support of education, care, and literacy.

The campaign, which raised over R1 million in 2024, is aiming even higher this year, with a goal of R2.5 million to support four impact-driven organisations: Breadline Africa, CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation, Rally to Read, and Matla a Bana.

“We believe a small step in funky socks can create giant leaps in changing lives,” says Herman Botha, PNA’s Senior Executive of Product and Marketing. “This is about more than colour and fun it’s about action.”

How It Works:

  • Buy a R10 sticker (N$10 in Namibia) at any PNA store
  • Wear your most vibrant socks on Friday, 12 September 2025
  • Share your pics using #FunkySocksDay2025
  • Or go big and order custom socks for your team
  • All funds raised go directly to the four NGOs

You can also order limited edition socks (R99) in collaboration with Sock Doctor, or do a bulk sock order (50 pairs or more) at R120 per pair.

Where Your R10 Goes

Each NGO partner has a direct, tangible impact — with quotes straight from the heart of the work.

Breadline Africa
With your help, they’ll be distributing 50 educational packs to under-resourced preschools.
“These are more than pencil cases and books,” explains Marion Wagner, CEO. “They’re a first step toward lifelong learning and confidence.”

CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation
Funds will support digital learning during treatment and care bags for children with cancer.
“Every sticker sold brings us closer to keeping a child’s mind stimulated while they heal,” says Carl Queiros, CEO of CHOC.

Rally to Read
This initiative brings literacy training and toolkits to schools in rural communities.
“Literacy is freedom,” says Pam Richardson from Rally to Read. “And Funky Socks Day helps unlock it.”

Matla a Bana
The organisation offers comfort packs for young abuse survivors.
“We’ll be able to give out 500 comfort packs this year,” says Founder Monique Strydom. “It’s a small bag, but to a child facing trauma, it’s a reminder that someone sees them, cares for them, and wants to help.”

Why It Matters

For Antoinette Kleyn, PNA’s Advertising and Promotions Manager, the message is simple:
“Funky Socks Day is more than a fundraiser; it’s a movement. A colourful, hopeful, national act of care.”

This is South Africa at its best, quirky, unified, and deeply committed to making sure every child has the tools to thrive.

Mark your calendar, buy your sticker, and wear your loudest socks on 12 September 2025.
It’s a small step, but for a child in need, it’s a leap toward something brighter.
