The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has unveiled state-of-the-art Smart Enrolment Units (SEUs) at the Traffic Department in Motherwell, marking a groundbreaking first for the Eastern Cape.
This innovative pilot project, a collaboration between the Road Traffic Management Corporation and the municipality, promises to save customers both time and money.
Cllr Stag Mitchell, Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, emphasized that the introduction of these advanced machines continues the Traffic Department’s efforts to eliminate long queues and enhance service quality. The SEUs will allow residents to handle multiple tasks in one visit, including paying with debit cards, capturing ID photos, and undergoing eye tests.
Warren Prins, Head of Traffic and Licensing, noted that the department’s ongoing improvements—such as the online booking system and enhanced customer communication—are showing positive results. Complaints have decreased, and service efficiency has improved, with transactions now expected to take no longer than fifteen minutes using the new SEUs.
The Korsten and Kariega Traffic Departments will be next to receive these units. Neelesh Badasie from the Road Traffic Management Corporation explained that the SEUs will replace older Live Enrolment Units, streamlining all necessary transactions for driver’s license production. This upgrade will reduce costs and wait times for both clients and the Traffic Departments.
