Stand Tall in Style at the Voice of Courage Fashion Show

The community of Nelson Mandela Bay is set to take a stand against gender-based violence in a truly fashionable way.

On Friday, 6 September, the Boardwalk Expo Centre will host the Voice of Courage Fashion Show, a charity event aimed at raising funds for Yokhuselo Haven, a sanctuary for women and children affected by domestic violence.

A Night of Style and Solidarity

For just R300, attendees will enjoy an evening filled with style and contribute to a cause that touches the lives of many. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated directly to Yokhuselo Haven, helping to cover the R35,000 monthly cost of providing essential services like shelter, food, clothing, and trauma counselling for victims.

Local designers, including Hombakazi, House of Ozzie, Queen M Style, and Braemore Design, will showcase their latest collections on the runway, with models from Premier Models strutting their creations. The event promises more than just a visual feast, as guests will also be treated to a performance by the beloved songstress Karen Kortje and a special poetic reading by Lelethu Mahambehlala from Poetic Soul.

A Voice for the Voiceless

The evening will feature powerful testimonies from Antoinette Hamman, a representative from Yokhuselo Haven, and Schamelle Rulf, a local author who once found refuge at the Haven. Their stories of overcoming domestic violence will highlight the vital work that Yokhuselo Haven does and the ongoing need for community support.

Rochelle Norris, Chairperson of Yokhuselo Haven, expressed her gratitude for the event, saying, “Many women and children are silently suffering from abuse but have nowhere to go, so we are grateful for fundraising initiatives such as this fashion show and donations from the public.”

How You Can Help

Even if you cannot attend the fashion show, there are many ways to support Yokhuselo Haven. The Haven constantly needs fresh and non-perishable food, toiletries, cleaning materials, bedding, clothing, and toys for the children. Volunteers are also welcome to help with tasks such as reception duties, playing with children, helping with homework, or providing companionship to the residents.

As Lameez Suliman, Marketing Manager at The Boardwalk, aptly put it, “When we refuse to accept violence as the norm, we can change the way the story ends for victims of abuse. By attending the fashion show, you can do good while learning to look good. That is a fashion statement worth making.”

Don’t miss this opportunity to make a difference while enjoying a night of glamour and goodwill. Tickets are available now on Webtickets.
