IIE Varsity College Nelson Mandela Bay: Ladies to Legends-Empower Her

THE IIE Varsity College Nelson Mandela Bay hosted a symposium in celebration of Women’s Month. 041Online was privileged to attend the Ladies to Legend-Empower Her event.

Light each other’s flame as you take your role as your Sisters’ Keeper.

This was the message shared at the Varsity College: Ladies to Legends symposium held at the IIE Varsity College Nelson Mandela Bay Campus in Newton Park on 18 August. Everything from the decor to the food and gracious ushers – along with the request that guests donate a pack of sanitary Pads for those in need- gave a sense of nurturing and empowerment to the ladies in attendance that evening and the lives they would boost even after leaving.

Graciously MC’d by second-year LLB student Sikelewa Gomba, the evening consisted of a brief message from guest speakers Cadi Baatjies and Jaci Howell, followed by a Q&A with the audience.

Cadi brought her life experiences, from changing degrees to the obstacles met while studying and finally being able to pursue her dream of teaching in Qatar. Jaci, who is Student Relations Manager and Career Centre Co-Ordinator at Varsity College, brought her vast knowledge and understanding of the various struggles young women face while navigating life from student to career woman.

The Q&A brought up concerns surrounding nourishing self-esteem, navigating and bringing value to relationships, and pursuing aspirations while keeping a close check on your own well-being. The concept of ‘My Sisters’ Keeper’ rang true to everyone in attendance who shared that, as women, we need to support, encourage, and value one another in our various collaborations and journeys with each other. As Cadi Baatjies said in her opening “There’s lots of space for all of us to [glow]”
