Help Her Get to Nationals: Thulisa Booi Heads to the 2025 Telkom Netball Championships

“Inene uThixo umkhulu – Truly, God is great.”

These are the words that come first for Thulisa Booi, a proud product of New Brighton, who has just been selected to represent the Chris Hani Netball Association at the 2025 Telkom Netball Championships, happening from 6–11 July in Cape Town.

For Thulisa, this moment is more than personal achievement – it’s a dream come true. A symbol of what perseverance, prayer, and community can achieve. “This means everything to me. It shows all the hard work and dedication I’ve put into netball, and I’m so proud to carry the name of my family, friends, and the New Brighton community with me,” she says.

A Journey Built on Resilience

Thulisa’s netball story began in Grade 7, about seven years ago. Now she shines in defensive positions, playing both Goal Keeper (GK) and Goal Defender (GD) with power and poise. “I’m really good at both positions – if you were wondering,” she laughs.

She was only recently selected to join the Chris Hani Netball Association, but her short time with the team has already been a source of motivation. Her journey hasn’t been easy — from navigating the move to Gqeberha, to finding her feet in a new school and environment, to pushing through moments of isolation and self-doubt. “I didn’t have someone to talk to or get advice from. But I’ve grown through those struggles, and I’m stronger because of them.”

A Life-Changing Opportunity

Just four months ago, during school orientation, Thulisa had planned to focus only on her academics. Then came a turning point. “I met my current coach. She asked me what sport I play, and everything changed from there.”

Now, she’s stepping into the national spotlight — and lifting her whole community with her. “People from New Brighton and Lalini ebomvu can see what’s possible when you stay focused. I want them to know I’m standing for them.”

Her eyes are firmly set on the road ahead: “This is a stepping stone for my dreams – whether it’s playing for a provincial team, earning a scholarship, or building a career in professional netball. I’m ready.”

A Message to Young Girls in New Brighton

“If I could say one thing to the girls who look up to me, it would be this:
Listen to your parents. Read the Bible. Focus on your books. Pray.
Discipline is everything in sport.

You must choose between what you want now and what you want most. Do you want to be a netball player for life, or a doctor? Whatever it is – focus on that.”

Thulisa’s selection is an incredible honour, but she needs help to make the journey happen. She’s appealing to sponsors, local businesses, and the community to assist with the R2,500 needed for transport and accommodation.

Breakdown of costs:
Transport: R1,000
Accommodation: R1,500

This isn’t just a trip — it’s a chance to open doors, show talent on a national stage, and turn potential into possibility.
