Future Teachers Share Love Of Reading With Papenkuil Primary School

TO help instil a love for reading from a young age Foundation Phase learners at Papenkuil Primary School will be given 150 covered storybooks courtesy of Varsity College.

Students and staff from The IIE’s Varsity College Nelson Mandela Bay personally, bought or donated and covered all the books.

“The day we covered all the books was something different, I was wondering how we would cover all 150 books in so little time. But the day turned out wonderful and we were happy to know that by covering the books they would last longer and hopefully be passed on to the next generation at the school. I really enjoyed listening to parts of the stories that were being read out whilst everyone was covering books. What a special time – memories filled with so much fun and laughter were created which I will always cherish. It was also great to see how other people wanted to get involved and help”, said Ray-linn Blignaut (IIE Bachelor of Education in Foundation Phase Teaching).

The IIE’s Varsity College Nelson Mandela Bay has partnered with Papenkuil Primary School through the KHUMO (Kid Heroes Under Mentorship of Others) project (The IIE’s Varsity  College’s national CSI initiative) to ensure sustainable development and community upliftment through local empowerment.

The KHUMO project runs for two years at a time with a school, and this is the second year of the partnership with Papenkuil Primary School with many successful initiatives implemented thus far
