As one of the country’s biggest career fairs, the expo is preparing to provide career resources for learners and unemployed youth from March 14 to 16 at the Feathermarket Centre.

Andrew Binning, CEO of  Inkanyezi Events, responsible for the event, said the expo’s focus was on providing learners with resources and exposing them to options around study and career choices.

“Finishing school is a milestone but only the first step towards finding meaningful employment, which must be the focus if we are to deal with the unemployment crisis in South Africa.”

The 2023 Working World Expo will feature up to 80 educational institutions, corporates, industry associations and entrepreneurial support agencies. Pupils of attending schools would also receive a ‘comprehensive’ Career Guidance Guide or textbook and access to a screened DVD on future careers.

An added feature of the Working World Expo this year will be the Standard Bank “Entrepreneurial Hub’’ which aims to inspire visitors to pursue practical skills and opportunities that lead to entrepreneurial enterprises.

The 24th edition of the careers expo is hosted in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, Coega Development Corporation, Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber, the Eastern Cape Department of Education and committed corporates like Standard Bank.

“Career guidance resources are essential to curb youth unemployment which is a serious concern in South Africa. Career planning is even more critical as the marketplace is demanding skills that are aligned with the 4th Industrial Revolution which is changing the shape of the job market, while trade-related skills present essential entrepreneurial opportunities,’’ said Binning.

Access to the expo and all of its resources is free to learners, parents, teachers, unemployed youth and all interested visitors.   It runs from 8.30 am to 3 pm on Tuesday 14, Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 March.  Schools and individuals can register to attend for free at www.workingworldexpo.co.za
