First Tats And Tunes Convention For Gqeberha

TATTOO and music enthusiasts are in for a treat this weekend with the inaugural Tats and Tunes convention at The Music Kitchen in Gqeberha.

Organised by Natasha Adams of Miss A’s Emporium,  this unorthodox event is being held in aid of those on the Autism Spectrum and will take place on Saturday, April 22.

Funds raised will go to Manjula in Walmer Gqeberha, a small private LSEN/Early Intervention Centre providing an inclusive educational environment for learners with special educational needs.

According to Adams, a former tattoo artist, the event is an opportunity for her to combine her passion for tattooing, music promotion and event planning in support of a cause close to her heart.

“I have friends on the autism spectrum and know people with children on the spectrum and have come to realise that we have a long way to go in terms of breaking the stigma surrounding autism. There are still many very misinformed people.”

The event will feature local musical acts, Mezzanine Floor, Edward Allen, Laure Le Roux, The Rob Thompson Band, Casey Bliss, Jack&Jill, Wasabi Club, Jared Gunston and DJ Scory as well as fire dancing by Fire Bunny.

There will also be onsite tattooing and piercings courtesy of eight tattoo stalls, three piercing stalls and various market vendors.

“It is exciting to combine all these various art forms in this way. Be it music, fire-dancing, tattooing, piercing or crafting, it is amazing to see the combination of all these alternative forms of expression,” said Adams, an artist herself.

Adams says she has been blown away by the support from local businesses such as Significant Signs and Creative Fire, to name a few, in preparation for the Tats and Tunes convention.

Adams intends for the event to be annual and says she has big plans up her sleeve.

“Nelson Mandela Bay may be a small area but we have such a diversity of art, culture and talent, it is an honour to showcase that.”

The event will take place on Saturday, April 22 at The Music Kitchen. Tickets are R225 each.
