FAZIELA HARRIS-DAVIDS:

AS winter is clearly here to stay for a while, why not stay in with your favourite movie from Disney Plus? These movies are guaranteed to keep you toasty and snug until the sun decides to heat things up a little to allow us to venture outside.

Hold onto your hats, you’re in for a whirlwind of fun and adventure!

Aladdin

Genre: Adventure, Family, Fantasy

Experience the thrilling and vibrant live-action adaptation of the animated classic Aladdin, the exciting tale of the charming street rat Aladdin (Mena Massoud), the courageous, self-determined Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott)—and Will Smith as the larger-than-life Genie who may be the key to their future!

If you absolutely love live-action adaptations, this one is cute without deviating too much from the original.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Genre: Action, Adventure, Comedy

Superhero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), and Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought possible. Directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige, p.g.a. and Stephen Broussard, p.g.a., “Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania” also stars Jonathan Majors as Kang.

If you really love Marvel, the shifting dynamic of Ant-mans’s character is amazing to see unfold. Quantumania is truly not given its due in terms of how amazing of a film it truly is.

Avatar: The Way of Water

Genre: Adventure

Avatar: The Way of Water reaches new heights and explores undiscovered depths as James Cameron returns to the world of Pandora in this emotionally packed action adventure. Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water launches the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure. All of this against the breathtaking backdrop of Pandora, where audiences are introduced to new Na’vi cultures and a range of exotic sea creatures that populate the majestic oceans. Nominated for numerous Academy Awards® including Best Picture, the James Cameron-directed film became the third highest-grossing box office film of all time and set a new benchmark for visual effects. Produced by Cameron and his longtime partner Jon Landau, the Lightstorm Entertainment production stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis and Kate Winslet. Joining the illustrious adult cast are talented newcomers Britain Dalton, Jamie Flatters, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Bailey Bass and Jack Champion. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.

It’s a visual masterpiece. I said it.

Avengers: Endgame

Genre: Action, Adventure, Science Fiction

The fourth instalment in the Avengers saga is the culmination of 22 interconnected films and the climax of an epic journey. Earth’s heroes will finally understand how fragile our reality is—and the sacrifices that must be made to uphold it—in a story of friendship, teamwork and setting aside differences to overcome an impossible obstacle.

I remember watching this film on opening night and leaving feeling like a Marvel superhero because I am dramatic like that. Honestly though, worth the long run time and definitely for the end battle scene, the end battle scene!!!

Avengers: Infinity War

Genre: Action-Adventure, Fantasy, Science Fiction

With the powerful Thanos on the verge of raining destruction upon the universe, the Avengers and their Super Hero allies risk everything in the ultimate showdown of all time.

What is truly spectacular about the Avengers films, is how they are able to show the struggle of each superhero, which really arcs against feeling that they have a responsibility to save the world, but in the end, suffer with inner turmoil. Love it!
