021correspondent Faziela Harris-Davids looks at the Sea Walls for Africa campaign  an exciting event combining art with conservation, taking place from 3-11 November 2023 in Cape Town.
CAPE Town truly comes to life when the sun comes out to play. Especially along its coastline making it the ideal spokesperson for ocean conservation. Running along the Sea Point Promenade, my eyes caught the most amazing mural going up.
Particularly the piece at the end that gave the illusion of a coastline, while wrapping along the edge of the building. The artist was kind enough to chat to me a little and told me about the campaign Sea Walls for Africa.

15 Artists from around the world have come together to design murals that will be showcased all over Cape Town to bring awareness to ocean conservation and preservation. Chatting to Amy-Lee Tak, she explained that by using the map on the website, you would be able to go around to visit each mural. Sea Walls has one mission, to educate around ocean preservation and the rich history of our coastline. Unfortunately due to pollution, over fishing and climate change, the marine ecosystems are becoming at risk of being damaged to a point of no return.
Each artist brings their unique art style to tell the story of the great work being done to protect our oceans, as well as to showcase how important the marine landscape is to our existence.
Luckily, there are many conservation groups and associations that have been working tirelessly to educate on safer fishing practices, as well as water safety. Especially to those from previously disadvantaged areas who do not have access to water sports such as surfing. This initiative comes at the perfect time as Cape Town starts to see an influx in visitors who spend their time reveling in the beaches and all it has to offer.
