LIFESTYLE | Bayside Pantry Serves Up a Fresh New Look and Plenty to Celebrate

After 26 years of serving up some of Nelson Mandela Bay’s favourite buffet experiences, Bayside Pantry at The Boardwalk Hotel & Casino is welcoming diners back tonight with a fresh new look, an expanded menu and plenty of reasons to arrive hungry.

041Online was invited to an exclusive preview of the revamped restaurant alongside VIP guests and members of the media, and if our experience was anything to go by, diners are in for a treat. The food was absolutely delicious, with so much variety that we were genuinely spoilt for choice. The prawns were a particular highlight, although there was plenty competing for our attention.

Boardwalk General Manager Sisulu Madondo explained that the refurbishment was inspired by the relaxed elegance of coastal living, with the aim of creating a fresh, inviting space where people feel comfortable gathering and celebrating life’s milestones.

With its greenery, natural light and understated elegance, the restaurant has a contemporary yet cosy feel, making it equally suited to family celebrations, special occasions or simply enjoying a good meal.

The head chef, who has been part of the team for five years, explained that the refreshed buffet introduces a broader selection of flavours, including Italian and Asian influences alongside traditional favourites.

Diners can look forward to an extensive pasta selection with a variety of sauces, a carvery featuring pork, lamb, chicken and beef, and braai-inspired dishes drawing on flavours from West Africa and Europe. Saturday’s offering includes prawns, while Sundays place particular emphasis on the traditional roast.

Adding to the experience are interactive cooking stations where chefs prepare dishes right in front of guests, bringing a little theatre to the dining room and ensuring freshly prepared options throughout the meal.

And with an impressive variety of dishes and soda on tap, our advice is simple: arrive hungry. Very hungry.

Bayside Pantry has been part of the Bay’s dining landscape for more than two decades, and its latest transformation offers a fresh take on a familiar favourite. With good food, welcoming surroundings and a little something for everyone, it’s easy to see why the team hopes it will become a place where Bay residents gather to celebrate life’s special moments.

Bayside Pantry reopens tonight, Monday, 2 November, at The Boardwalk Hotel & Casino in Gqeberha.
