Behind many of Nelson Mandela Bay’s small businesses are stories of survival rather than strategy. For Jo-Anne, founder of Jo’s Creation and Bossie Kop So What, entrepreneurship has been shaped by faith, resilience and the courage to begin again.
A mother and woman of faith, Jo-Anne’s journey includes loss, rebuilding and learning to trust a process that often did not make sense.
“I am resilient not because life has been easy,” she says, “but because I chose not to give up when it wasn’t.”
Two brands, one purpose
Under Jo’s Creation, Jo-Anne designs women’s garments that focus on flow, movement and femininity. Her work includes dresses, jumpsuits, kimonos, two-piece sets and statement pieces that are expressive yet wearable. Based in Gqeberha, she runs a home-based studio and sells primarily online through social media.
Bossie Kop So What focuses on everyday confidence and self-care. The brand offers handmade hair accessories, satin-lined bonnets, scrunchies, beanies and hair-care essentials designed to protect hair and boost confidence.
While the brands differ in form, they are united by purpose. One speaks through fashion and storytelling, the other through daily rituals of care and affirmation.
Designing for real women
Jo-Anne designs for women who are balancing responsibility, faith and ambition.
“She may be soft, but she is strong,” she says. “She wants comfort, confidence and beauty, and she understands that she is still becoming.”
Movement, comfort and intention are central to every piece she creates.
Faith as foundation
In 2015, Jo-Anne received a prophecy that she would become a fashion designer. She acted on it, studying, working in the beauty industry and building her brands from home.
That faith was tested by divorce and financial hardship. Studies were paused and stability disappeared, but her belief did not.
“Faith became non-negotiable because it was the only thing holding everything together,” she says.
Purpose over trends
Jo-Anne’s work is guided by intention rather than trends. Each piece is designed with meaning, not just aesthetics.
“Design allows me to tell stories without words,” she says. “I want women to feel affirmed, grounded and confident.”
A season of restoration
Her brand relaunch and fashion show on 28 February marks a new chapter.
“This work is more than fashion,” Jo-Anne says. “It is purpose in motion.”
Success, she adds, is no longer defined by money alone, but by alignment, peace and impact.
For women feeling close to giving up, her message remains simple.
“Your current season does not cancel your calling. If you are still breathing, your story is not finished.”
