Kids cooking workshop in CT this December

021Focus:

IF you are ever looking for inspiration in the kitchen, Cooked.Inc would be your go to. Today we explore her upcoming December Kids Cooking Workshops that book up as soon as she goes live with them.

Many moons ago I was constantly on the look out for food inspiration as I was trying to broaden my cooking skills, that’s when I happened across the mouthwatering page of Cooked.Inc on Instagram. What I loved most was that despite her main business being selling amazing meal kits and frozen meals, she was always willing to share her recipes and tricks in the kitchen with a smiling face and a laugh you could spot miles away.

At the tender age of 28, Mariam discovered she had Stage 3 lymphoma, this came as a shock to her as she was not sick. After enduring 6 months of chemo, she was found to be in remission. During this journey she was inspired to look into alternative healing options such as reiki, laughter therapy and meditation.

It was this very journey that opened up the door to her researching food for healing, and so starts the adventure of Cooked.Inc.

Her workshops have pioneered the way forward in eating foods from across the globe all from your very own kitchen, and will sometimes include trips to local grocery stores to show you exactly what you would need to buy. We chatted to her a little to find out more about her upcoming Kids Workshops.

What inspires your workshops?

Getting people to eat better and getting them back into the kitchen has always been one of my business essentials – teaching how to shop, prep and cook with minimal effort and standard ingredients.

Our lives have become so busy that adults do not have the time or patience to include kids in the daily cooking. To prevent another generation from lacking basic cooking knowledge I started teaching kids too.

At what age do you suggest kids start learning to cook?

Allow your kids to be in the kitchen with you from as young as a year old. Even if they are just messing around. They get comfortable and it creates a happy space for later years.

I love that these workshops come with an educational aspect, how do you incorporate it without it feeling like a classroom?

With just a little guidance and someone telling them that they can do it.

Cooking and baking teaches a number of aspects:

– reading

– counting

– fractions

– sequencing

– measuring

– fine motor skills (pouring, chopping, mixing, kneading)

– kitchen safety

What meals would they make at your workshop?

We cook everything – from Korean Kimbap, to Alfredo Pasta, to Vol au Vent pastries, Chow Mein, the list is endless.

What lessons would you like them to take away from each workshop?

Everything an adult can cook, a child can. With the proper guidance, and then given the chance, they are very capable little humans.
