LOOKING for honest reviews on new and old movies and series? we have you covered, in this new series, Odette Parfitt has you covered and lets us know if it’s worth the stream.
Platform: Prime Video (2023)
Basic plot:
It’s the apocalypse and for a group of late-twenty-something women, this means being cut off from the world and stranded at their 10-year high school reunion with all the people they hated as teenagers – and probably still hate now
How it was probably pitched to the producers:
What’s the worst place to be at the end of the world? Let’s go there.
Thoughts:
I’m honestly struggling to find the words to describe this show. It’s Australian. It’s chaotic. These characters have a lot of baggage and sometimes it’s hard to root for any of them. There’s Zoey, who accidentally attends the reunion while trying to run from a tidal wave (she had the planet’s most hilarious reality-show stint that ended in her going fully off the grid so she didn’t realise it was reunion time?), her ex-best friend Amelia, former bully Saskia, and then an assortment of wacky characters. The longer the Poco (as they call the apocalypse) goes on, the more Lord of the Flies it gets.
Bottom line – is it worth the stream?
I think I’m going to say yes – if only because I’ve not seen anything like it before.
Watch this if you like:
- Australian accents
- High school dramas where people don’t look like they stumbled off the Gossip Girl set
- Contemplating the utter madness that may or may not be waiting at the end of the world (but with humour)
