ADASA Eastern Cape will join the global community in marking World Alzheimer’s Day on 21 September 2025, under the theme: “Ask about Dementia. Ask about Alzheimer’s.”
The theme encourages individuals, families, caregivers, and communities to break the silence, ask questions, and challenge the stigma surrounding dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.
Why Asking Matters
In South Africa, many families face the realities of dementia with limited resources and support. Asking the right questions is often the first step, says Heather Rauch, Regional Manager at ADASA Eastern Cape (pictured).
“When we ask, we learn. When we learn, we care better. And when we care, we restore dignity,” Rauch explains.
Whether it’s recognising early symptoms, finding the right care, or learning how best to support a loved one, ADASA emphasises that every question matters — because memories matter.
Community Events in September
Throughout the month, ADASA Eastern Cape will host a series of:
- Community dialogues to open conversations about dementia and Alzheimer’s
- Caregiver workshops to provide practical support and guidance
- Awareness campaigns to reduce stigma and promote inclusive care environments
These initiatives aim to encourage early diagnosis, connect families to support services, and empower caregivers with tools and resources.
Call to Action
ADASA is inviting media partners, healthcare professionals, educators, community leaders, and companies to amplify the message across the Province.
“Together, we can build a more informed, compassionate Eastern Cape – where no one walks the dementia journey alone,” says Rauch.
