Gqeberha came alive with style, scent, and skin secrets this past weekend at the WBeauty Master-Class in collaboration with Glamour Magazine, hosted by none other than Glamour’s Editor-In-Chief, Nontando Mposo. This stunning event was more than just a beauty gathering — it was an educational afternoon centred on Winter Rituals, Skin, Scent & Self-Expression, and how to truly honour ourselves through seasonal self-care.
Nontando Mposo, the first Black female Editor-in-Chief of Glamour SA, is not just a leader in media — she is a voice of empowerment, elegance, and inclusion. With her warm presence and sharp insight into beauty trends and self-care, she gracefully led us through a session that was informative, luxurious, and rooted in real-world self-love. As a media powerhouse, Nontando is known for spotlighting African talent and championing representation, so it was no surprise that this event was more than skin-deep — it was about confidence, culture, and caring for ourselves in every way.
Held in Woolworths, Walmer Park Shopping Centre, the master-class guided attendees through the importance of adapting your skincare, body care, fragrance, and makeup routines for the colder months, with rich insights from beauty experts and curated Woolworths Beauty products to help elevate your rituals.
Skincare Lessons: Hydration is Queen
One of the standout lessons was the critical importance of hydrating and moisturising during winter — especially as the chill and indoor heating can severely dry out the skin. Morning and evening skincare routines were emphasised as the foundation of glowing skin. And yes, under-eye care is not optional!
Here are some of the Woolworths Beauty must-haves that were recommended:
Woolies Hydrating Skin Mist – This lightweight mist is your on-the-go hydration saviour. Perfect for pre-moisturiser or a midday refresh, it gives your skin a dewy boost and helps lock in moisture.
Woolies Glow Toner – A gentle yet effective toner that refines pores, boosts radiance, and prepares your skin to soak in the goodness of your next skincare steps. A definite winter essential for dull skin days.
Woolies Hydrating Gel Moisturiser – Packed with moisture-loving ingredients, this gel formula glides on like silk and deeply hydrates without feeling heavy or greasy — ideal for dry, sensitive skin in cooler temperatures.
Under-Eye Creams – Often forgotten but incredibly important, under-eye care helps reduce puffiness, dark circles, and dryness. Applying a nourishing eye cream morning and night can make all the difference.
We also learned that morning and evening routines aren’t just about skincare — they’re rituals. It’s about taking time for yourself, even if it’s just 5–10 minutes a day, to feel grounded and radiant.
Fragrance as Self-Expression: Notes of the Season
Fragrance was another powerful focus. In winter, our scent preferences often shift from fresh florals to richer, warmer notes. Think sandalwood, warm spices, musk, amber, and woodsy accords.
One standout recommendation was the Gucci Intense Oud — a decadent, long-wearing fragrance infused with traditional Eastern ingredients. With its deep, mysterious aroma, it wraps you in a luxurious cocoon perfect for winter layering.
We were also schooled on the best spots to apply perfume for long-lasting wear:
Wrists
Neck (especially the base and sides)
Behind the ears
Inner elbows
Back of the knees
Hair and scarf (for a lingering trail as you move)
By applying perfume to your pulse points — where the blood flow is stronger — the fragrance interacts with your body heat, intensifying and releasing the scent slowly throughout the day.
Makeup for the Season: Deep, Bold, and Moisturised
Winter makeup doesn’t mean dull — it means rich tones and glossy finishes. Think brown and chocolate eyeshadows, defined brows, and the return of the ever-trendy lip liner.
To complete the look, the team introduced us to the WBeauty Sleek Moisturising Lip Oil — a glossy, non-sticky formula that delivers colour, comfort, and hydration all in one swipe. Perfect for chapped winter lips that still want to shine!
Lip liners paired with moisturising oils give definition and depth while keeping your lips plump and nourished. Brown-based nudes and rich berry tones are the colours of the season.
So here’s to glowing skin, signature scents, and makeup that warms the soul — all made possible by the luxurious and accessible world of Woolworths Beauty.
