Why I Love NMB – Annelize Botha

FOR the next few weeks, we will be asking the people of Nelson Mandela Bay what they love about the metro.

We hope to shine some light on just what it is that makes Nelson Mandela Bay and its residents so proud to call it home.

Today we start with Annelize, someone who was born here, moved away and found her way home…

Introduction:

My name is Annelize (known as Annie to friends) and I own a brand called CALM, Ferndale Foods (dairy-free range) and the Locally Yours Market & Shop. I started the market after I was fortunate to have ‘CALM’ discovered so I ‘paid it forward’ for other local handmade entrepreneurs 5 years ago by starting Locally Yours. I am married to my wonderful hubby Carl and I have 2 amazing children Lauren & Matthew

Where do you always take guests, to show off NMB

Definitely for shopping it’s the Locally Yours Shop and Market for the most beautiful handmade local arts, crafts & foods. My fave place is the Cape Recife Lighthouse, it’s our local light that puts us on the map. Then our beaches, an absolute must and the drive along our coast. Having lived in Joburg for so many years I love being able to see our beautiful coast every day and sharing it with friends and family who visit. And of course, no day at the beach would be complete without a visit to the Something Good Roadhouse.

Where is your favourite place to eat?

La Kouzina is my all-time favourite for its food, great service and the view. And for Sunday lunches it has to be Home Cooked Meals in Walmer.

Where is your favourite place to relax?

My studio with its stunning sea view. I am at my happiest creating beautiful jewellery listening to great music and getting lost in my own creative space.

What spot holds real significance for you?

I grew up in this beautiful city before relocating to Johannesburg for 20 years and each year I couldn’t wait to come ‘home’ for holidays and spend time on the beach. We have so many and my happy place is where I can put my feet in the sand and sea.

Where do you like to shop?

I’m not a big shopper however The Locally Yours Shop is my first choice, I don’t think anyone can blame me. And I absolutely love the new Checkers at the Boardwalk Mall, where else can you find a Kombi in the fruit and veggie section?

Which is your favourite NMB market?

The Locally Yours Market (of course lol), it’s been hard work however after 5 years I am really proud to think that we are still only local and handmade.

Where can you be found on weekends?

If I’m not at a market or in the shop I’ll be home with my family. We moved back to PE because of a life event and family time is a non-negotiable for me, it is so important to find time to be together.

What have you not done in the / or haven’t gone but really want to?

Travel. There are so many places to see locally which is why I started the ‘Tour in the Bay in a local way’ to encourage people (like me) to get out and see hidden treasures in and around our city. Not places that are over-advertised but rather places and people who really make our Bay a special place.
