From pared-back skincare routines to unexpected uses for everyday products, a recent Woolworths beauty masterclass at Walmer Park proved that beauty advice does not have to be complicated to be useful.

Led by Woolworths beauty expert Corey Goldman, the session explored some of the products and routines currently shaping the beauty space. Guests also joined the conversation, sharing the unconventional tips and trusted tricks that have earned a place in their own routines.
Three beauty products currently having a moment
Among the products highlighted during the masterclass were three that speak to some of the biggest current beauty trends.
Sol de Janeiro fragrances
Fragrance is no longer being treated as the final, almost forgotten step in a beauty routine. Products such as Sol de Janeiro’s popular fragrances have helped turn scent into part of a person’s everyday beauty identity.
The masterclass also touched on fragrance layering, using complementary products such as lotions and oils before applying fragrance. This can help the scent last longer while creating a more personalised result.
Barrier repair cream
Complicated skincare routines are giving way to products that help protect and strengthen the skin barrier.
Barrier repair creams are particularly useful when skin feels dry, sensitive or irritated, although the best product will depend on your individual skin type and needs.
24-hour makeup setting spray
A long-lasting makeup setting spray is another practical product gaining attention. Designed to help makeup stay in place throughout the day, it can be particularly helpful during warmer weather, long events or days when there is little time for touch-ups.
The return of the minimal skincare routine
One of the strongest messages from the masterclass was that skincare does not need to involve a shelf full of products.
A simple routine can be built around three essential steps:
- Cleanse
- Moisturise
- Apply SPF
Serums, lotions and oils can then be added according to what your skin actually needs, rather than simply because a product is trending online.
Goldman’s most important advice was refreshingly simple: listen to your skin instead of blindly following beauty fads.
A product that works beautifully for one person may irritate another. Similarly, a routine that suits your skin during winter may need to change when the weather becomes warmer or your skin’s condition changes.
Walmer Park guests share their beauty secrets
The masterclass became even more entertaining when guests shared some of the beauty tips they personally swear by.
Natasha Willis revealed that she uses Preparation H beneath her eyes, while Jennifer Bala shared that she uses bum cream on her face. As with any product being used outside its intended purpose, these unconventional tricks should be approached carefully, particularly around sensitive areas.
Stacey Meyer uses The Ordinary’s Glycolic Acid on her feet, a popular online beauty hack intended to help with rough skin. Glycolic acid is a powerful exfoliating ingredient, so sunscreen, careful use and attention to irritation remain important.
Jessica Wolmarans offered a clever way to get more use from a makeup product. She applies WBeauty’s gold All Over Face Multistick to her shoulders and décolletage to create a glowing body shimmer.
For women entering their 40s, Sonja Tifloen recommended investing in good eye and neck creams, focusing on areas that are sometimes overlooked in everyday skincare routines.
The best routine is the one your skin needs
Beauty trends can introduce us to useful ingredients, products and techniques, but the biggest takeaway from the Walmer Park masterclass was not about buying everything currently going viral.
It was about paying attention.
Start with the essentials, introduce new products carefully and notice how your skin responds. The most fashionable routine is not necessarily the best one. The best routine is the one that works for you.
