Blessing Nyatsanza, a Grade 10 student from Walmer High School, has triumphed in the Regional round of The IIE’s Varsity College’s annual National High Schools Quiz.

Nyatsanza will now compete in the Grand Finale in Durban on Saturday, July 6, where the top eight learners from the Regional rounds will battle for the championship title.
Nyatsanza’s victory in the Regional round is a significant achievement, positioning him among the brightest young minds in the country. Joining him in the top ranks were Alex Bains and Raylon Brouwer, both Grade 11 students from Westering High School in Gqeberha, who secured second and third place, respectively.
The IIE’s Varsity College has been hosting the National High School Quiz for the past nine years, with the Nelson Mandela Bay campus securing the championship for the last two consecutive years. Nyatsanza, described as an intelligent and enthusiastic learner, is determined to continue this winning streak for Nelson Mandela Bay.
Reflecting on his recent success, Nyatsanza said, “This Regional round was fun, exhilarating, and extremely challenging. I am happy with my result and look forward to the Grand Finale in July. My strategy for the Grand Finale is to continue doing my research so that I am fully prepared.”
The upcoming Grand Finale promises to be an exciting event, showcasing the top talents from high schools across the country. The national winner will be awarded a cash prize of R10,000, along with R10,000 for their school and R5,000 for their teacher or coach. The first runner-up will receive a cash prize totaling R15,000, and the second runner-up will receive R7,500 in cash prizes for themselves and their schools.
The competition is eagerly anticipated, with Nyatsanza and his supporters hopeful for a victory that would bring pride and recognition to Nelson Mandela Bay.
