If you’ve been following along, you’ll know that last week my husband and I embarked on a mini road trip from Gqeberha toward Addo Elephant National Park. But before greeting the giants of the Eastern Cape, we made a pit‑stop that added a serious dose of thrill to our nature getaway, Adrenalin Addo Adventure Park, and yes, you should absolutely stop there too!
Citrus groves and scenery to start
Thanks to the detour, we passed row upon row of citrus trees, a glowing green sea dotted with orange and yellow fruit. It was such a gorgeous visual gift, and reminded me once again how stunning our country is.
First sight: breathtaking
When we arrived at Adrenalin Addo Adventure Park, I was honestly speechless. I say that a lot, but this time the words did fail me, the view over the valley, river, and orchards was that beautiful.
Raft ride plus hike to the zipline
We crossed the river on a 10-second raft ride before our hike. Ten seconds might not sound like much, but trust me, those ten seconds felt like a scene from a travel ad. Then we hiked through indigenous bush for about 10 minutes (lies, it took my unfit behind about 30 minutes) to reach the zipline tower. Every step was a mini-adventure, surrounded by that citrus-scented air. You know those TikToks where someone’s running and filming, and all you hear is their heavy breathing over a gorgeous view? Yeah… that was me. All my videos from the hike are basically breathtaking scenery with a soundtrack of me wheezing like I just finished a marathon. A true cinematic masterpiece.
Double zipline: soaring above it all
My husband and I braved the double zipline, and it was unforgettable. Adrenalin Addo’s twin cables each stretch 500 m from a tower perched 70 m above the Sundays River, making it South Africa’s longest, highest, and fastest double zipline. Riders hit average speeds of around 60 km/h, some even push past 80! We both screamed with excitement and maybe a little fear, but it was SO worth it.
Earlier in the hike we met a German solo traveller who opted for the Superman zipline, flying head-first like a superhero, and he raved about it, saying it was so freeing and fun.
Staff that really care
From booking to arrival, Katie was a lifesaver. She guided us through directions, noting a major roadworks detour on the way, so we didn’t accidentally take the wrong turn. Her help made everything smooth and stress-free.
On site the staff were incredibly professional and welcoming. They led us through safety talks and nature trivia, ensuring we felt confident before zipping off into the sky.
Getting geared up, and locked in!
Before going on the hike, we were kitted out with full safety gear, sturdy harnesses, helmets, and that made us feel both ready for action and slightly like we were about to join a construction crew. The staff were incredibly reassuring and professional, patiently helping us get strapped in and making sure everything was secure and double-checked.They clipped, tugged, tightened, and adjusted like total pros, even when I asked, “Are you sure this thing is tight enough?” for the third time. (Look, I like thrills… but I like the ground too, okay?)They walked us through the safety briefing with a great sense of humour, which definitely helped calm the nerves. Honestly, there’s nothing quite like dangling from a platform 70 metres up in the air to bring out the trust issues, but they had us covered, literally and figuratively!
Hike highlights & bush side nerves
My husband, who’s a bush buff, paused constantly to admire flora and views, while I, ever the worrier, nearly jumped at every rustle in the bush (classic me). That mix of bush‑buzz and adventure made the experience rich.
Chill time: lemonade, sun & laughter
After our zipline rush, we relaxed with fresh lemonade, soaking in the sunshine and the soundtrack of birds, and, yes, the joyful shrieks from kids bouncing on the trampoline nearby. It felt peaceful, playful, and perfect.
Why it’s a must‑stop before Addo Elephants
- Close to Addo Elephant National Park – only about 20 minutes from the park entrance, so it’s a great pre-safari thrill stop
- Top‑rated by TripAdvisor visitors praising the views, staff, and adrenaline rush
Final thoughts
If you love bush vibes and nature but still crave a heart‑pounding thrill, Adrenalin Addo Adventure Park is the perfect match. From the citrus-lined drive to that 500 m zipline drop, it’s an experience you feel as much as see.
Would I go again? Totally. And next time I’m tempted to try the Superman style zipline myself (though I was more brave from the sidelines this time!). So next on your Addo adventure list: make that detour, enjoy the ride, and don’t forget to let go.
