Cricket fans are in for a spectacular start to the holiday season as the Proteas take on Sri Lanka in the second of two Test matches at the Dafabet St George’s Park Cricket Stadium, from December 5-9.
“This promises to be a treat for fans of the longer traditional game – with entertainment added for the whole family over the weekend,” says Leigh Deyzel, St George’s Park Stadium event coordinator.
Adding to the excitement, Eastern Province Cricket (EPC) President Donovan May highlights the significance of this match, noting that it will be the last opportunity for Eastern Cape cricket fans to witness an international game for at least a year.
May urges fans to “fill the stadium” in support of the Proteas, who will look to build momentum in the series ahead of international tournaments next year. “It is also a privilege for the Nelson Mandela Bay metro to be able to stage a five-day Test Match during the December holiday period. They are both good teams, and the spectators should be treated to some entertaining and excellent cricket.”
South Africa last faced Sri Lanka in 2021, dominating the series with a 621-run victory in the first Test and a 10-wicket win in the second. However, Sri Lanka enters this series with an impressive 2024 record, having secured victories against New Zealand, England, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.
“The Proteas will definitely appreciate all the support they can get from the Dafabet St George’s cricket fans,” says Deyzel. “The Proteas have a very good record at St George’s, and our fans create the atmosphere and vibe that is second to none.”
Bubbles and Fun for the Ladies
As a special highlight, the stadium will host Bubbalicious Cricket on Friday, December 6, exclusively for women aged 18 and over. Tickets for this unique experience cost R300 and include beverages, catering, giveaways, and prizes—offering a glamorous day at the game.
Weekend Family Activities
Over the weekend, families can look forward to a dedicated kids’ play area and beverage specials for parents. Whether you’re a cricket enthusiast or simply looking for a day out, there’s something for everyone.
Tickets for the game range from R60 to R140 per day and are available through Ticketpro and at the stadium.
“After the rains, the pitches and outfield are in great condition for the tactical five-day game,” says Deyzel.
Mark your calendars, grab your sunscreen, and head to St George’s Park for a celebration of sport, entertainment, and holiday cheer.
