IT’S time again for South African Fashion Week, the country’s premier fashion design platform.
Now in its 26th year, the three-day event organized with the support of Mall of Africa, Mr Price, Cruz Vodka, Oppo, Carlton Hair and M.A.C Make-up will host 11 shows highlighting 39 collections.
It will also host a contingent of designers and models from neighbouring Mozambique Fashion Week as well as this year’s participants in the ground-breaking collaborative Italian/South African Fashion Bridges – I Ponti della Moda project.
“Regional and intercontinental collaborations such as these, allow all parties to knit networks of beneficial mutual support. They allow us to share skills and insights, open unexplored business opportunities, and ultimately, extend the sphere of our respective creative visions beyond our familiar borders,” says SAFW director Lucilla Booyzen.
The prestigious event opened this week with the who’s of the SA fashion and entertainment gathering at the newly renovated Levelthree in Sandton.
Red carpet host Chris Jaftha welcomed guests as they arrived while award-winning local designer Paledi Segapo presented a New York-inspired fashion installation to be remembered. SA Fashion Week showcasing designer Artclub and Friends kitted out the promoters with super cool branded ankle socks and cute tote bags.
The star-studded guest list boasted fashionable personalities, designers, comedians, and reality TV stars. including actresses Nambita Ben Mazwi, and Lunathi Mampofu and sisters Candice and Refilwe Modiselle.
Other esteemed guests included media personalities Lasizwe, Abigail Visagie, Shamiso Mosaka and Kim Jayde, and comedians Robot Boi and Primo. Reality TV stars included the gorgeous Housewives of Durban’s Annie Mthembu, Maria Isabella Valaskatzis and Sorisha Naidoo, Rosette Ncwana and Nicole Capper.
SA fashion designers Scalo, Fundunzi’s Craig Jacobs, Ole Ledimo from House of Ole and Imprint’s Msukizi Mbane graced the red carpet while top SA artists Tamara Dey, Gigi La Mayne, KLA, Money Badoo and Limpopo’s own Makhadzi were also in attendance.
SA Fashion Week runway shows take place from Wednesday, April 20 to Saturday, 22 April, with three days of incredible South African fashion being showcased to not only an eager SA audience but fashion enthusiasts from around the world at the Mall of Africa.
