One of the amazing things about the Nelson Mandela community is that there are so many people and groups willing to go the extra mile, today we look at one such organisation, The Benedicta Foundation.
Our community, our responsibility! Together we can change the city and inspire change within the country.
This is the Philosophy of The Benedicta Foundation. A fully registered NPO founded by Thaspen Benedicta in 2021.
Along with the Benedicta Foundation team, she has been running several projects in Gqeberha’s
Northern areas. In January alone, they feed 50 families from the Helenvale community as well as assisted 40 children with stationery packs (including school backpacks and snacks).
They go the extra mile, by not only assisting the community with a much-need meal and essentials but also spending time getting to know the families they are assisting.

Apart from the school project, they are also proud of the projects they initiated in March, focusing on the Missionvale area:
Project Sandwich feeds vulnerable kids in destitute communities. Since it started just over a month ago, they have fed 102 kids as well as delivered a short training with 100 adults and young people.
For Easter the foundation focused on their project called Peace, Love & Peeps this was all about connecting families to the true meaning behind Easter while creating a fun environment for the kids. 300 people were fed and the kiddies got to opportunity to be kids and jump on a jumping castle, something many of them had never had the chance to experience before. The jumping castle rental as well as the pickle fish which fed the families were donated by the local community.
Upcoming Events and Projects
Starting April they have partnered with Farming God’s Way who will provide 6 weeks of training on vegetable farming to equip the outreach team as well as a few members from Helenvale and Kleinskool.
Other workshops in the pipeline are:
- Self-defense
- Project sandwich Kleinskool and Bethelsdorp
- Women’s wellness workshop
- Worship evening fundraiser

However you as an individual can assist with non-perishable food items, clothing , blankets, books, toys, sanitary and toiletry items. If you are able to, they always need extra hands on the days they run projects , you can volunteer some of your time as well. Branding and transportation is always welcome.
