On a perfectly sunny day the Somerset East Golf Club came alive with the buzz of camaraderie, competition, and charity as the 10th Annual Somerset East Charity Golf Day unfolded. With over 80 players, ranging from seasoned golfers to enthusiastic beginners, the event was a celebration of community spirit and generosity, united under a singular mission: to raise funds
for the CWSA-Mary Coetzee Foster Cluster Home and the Luvuyo Special Care Centre.
The participants on December 7th, 2024, impeccably dressed in stylish matching golf shirts and caps, added an air of elegance to the fairways as they teed off under clear blue skies. The atmosphere was electric, with laughter, friendly banter, and the occasional cheer echoing across the course as players navigated the challenges with skill and determination.
Ricardo Carney emerged as the winning golfer with an impressive 41 points, followed closely by Bongi Marius Yekani with 40 points. Dalton Serbon secured third place with 38 points. Our talented female golfers also shone brightly, with Dr. Tumi Ngxukumeshe winning the ladies’ section with 33 points, and the gifted Dudu Dilima showcasing her skills on the course. The Junior section was won by Raylen Serbon with an impressive 31 points.
The Somerset East Charity Golf Day received tremendous support from its sponsors, including Amakhala Emoyeni Wind Farms as the main sponsor, along with Isuzu SA, the Eastern Cape Department of Sports, Recreation, Arts & Culture, Heineken, Vodacom, SABC, Standard Bank, Liberty Life, and the Sarah Baartman District Municipality.
Highlights of the day included a lively prize-giving ceremony, where outstanding performances were celebrated with trophies, vouchers, and heartfelt applause. The event also featured generously donated items, drawing enthusiastic participation from attendees. Every contribution, big or small, was a reminder of the collective impact that can be achieved when a community comes together.
The event not only met its fundraising goal of over R160,000 but also reaffirmed the incredible community spirit that Somerset East is known for. From the first swing to the final putt, the day was a testament to the power of community. Beyond the competition, it was the spirit of giving that truly shone. Families, friends, and local businesses came together, contributing not only their time but also their resources to support two vital causes in the region. The CWSA-Mary Coetzee Foster Cluster Home and the Luvuyo Special Care Centre are cornerstones of support for vulnerable children and individuals with special needs, and the funds raised will go a long way in enhancing their services and facilities.
