With 26 points from 10 games and sitting just two points behind log leaders Masilakhe FC, Swartkops FC captain Velisani “Vellie” Solani believes the title race is far from over.
A Strong Mentality Driving Results
Solani praised his team’s unity and fighting spirit, saying they have shared one goal since day one, grinding out results. However, he admits there is still room for improvement.
“Our performance is not there yet, but the mentality is strong. The league is getting tougher, and we know we must do more,” he said.
Every Game Now a Final
With seven games left, Swartkops are preparing for a mental battle as much as a physical one.
“Now every game is a final. We can’t afford to drop points. The mental strength will decide everything,” Solani added.
Respect for the Competition
He also acknowledged the impressive run of Masilakhe, who remain unbeaten after 10 matches.
“They brought a different dimension to the league. They are definitely one of the favourites,” he admitted.
Strategy for the Final Stretch
For Swartkops, the focus is clear, improve their conversion rate in front of goal and widen the gap between themselves and the chasing pack, with third and fourth place both sitting on 21 points.
“We are not chasing the leaders; we are running away from position three and four. That way, we naturally close the gap at the top,” he explained.
Depth and Readiness
As the season enters its decisive stage, squad rotation and fitness remain key, with more than 25 players available to step up when called upon.
And if it goes down to the final game?
“We are ready for any pressure. Mentally and physically, we are prepared,” Solani said confidently.
Message to Supporters
His message to the supporters is simple:
“We need our 12th man now more than ever.”
Eyes on the Trophy
Can Swartkops lift the trophy? Solani remains calm but hopeful:
“If we stay humble and consistent, we will see the trophy in our hands.”
Why It Matters for the Bay
With the title race tightening and only a handful of games remaining, Swartkops FC are firmly in contention. For local football supporters, this is shaping up to be one of the most competitive finishes to the season, with every point now carrying real weight.
