Ster-Kinekor searches for South Africa’s next squad of movie content creators

If you’re the person in your friend group who always knows what’s showing, books the cinema tickets and has opinions about every new movie release, Ster-Kinekor may be looking for you.

The cinema group has launched a nationwide search for its next SK Squad, a community of content creators who will turn their love of movies and the big-screen experience into original social media content.

Entries are open until midnight on 27 August 2026, giving Eastern Cape movie lovers and creators just over a week to get their videos in.

What is the SK Squad?

Ster-Kinekor says it is looking for cinema enthusiasts, lifestyle creators and digital influencers with the creativity and personality to become part of the SK Squad and engage movie-loving audiences online.

The campaign isn’t necessarily about finding the creator with the biggest following either. According to Ster-Kinekor chief marketing officer Lynne Wylie, the search is focused on people who can authentically communicate their enthusiasm for cinema.

“Our ultimate goal with this exciting campaign is to build and activate an elite squad of content creators who can authentically engage movie-loving audiences, create compelling cinematic content, and champion the Ster-Kinekor brand across digital platforms,” Wylie said.

Once the search phase has been completed, Ster-Kinekor plans to appoint a community of cinema fans who can transform that enthusiasm into original content.

“What we are looking for is creativity, confidence, personality and a genuine love for watching movies on the big cinema screen,” Wylie said.

How to enter the SK Squad search

The entry process starts where you would expect a creator search to start: TikTok.

Entrants need to create an original TikTok video of no more than 60 seconds showing what the magic of cinema and watching a movie on the big screen means to them.

The video must then be posted publicly on TikTok using the hashtag #SKSquadSearch.

But don’t stop after hitting post.

Entrants must also email their full name, contact details and a link to the TikTok video to SKTsquad@sterkinekor.com before midnight on 27 August.

Late entries will not be accepted.

Ster-Kinekor is also encouraging entrants to follow its official TikTok account, where competition updates and content around the search will be shared.

A chance for Eastern Cape creators

For Nelson Mandela Bay and Eastern Cape content creators, the nationwide campaign presents another opportunity to get their work in front of a major South African brand.

And you don’t have to create traditional movie reviews.

The brief leaves room for creators to show what the cinema experience means to them, opening the door for different approaches to storytelling, humour, lifestyle content and pop culture.

Essentially, if movies are already part of the content you love creating, this is your excuse to make that 60-second idea you’ve been sitting on.

Just don’t leave it sitting in your drafts until 28 August.

The SK Squad initiative is being presented by Ster-Kinekor in collaboration with BIGGI Popcorn and Slush Puppie.

Full entry requirements, campaign terms and conditions are available on the official Ster-Kinekor SK Squad competition page.
