SOPHISTICATE MODELS CELEBRATES 36 YEARS OF GLAMOUR AND GROWTH AT THE FEATHER MARKET CENTRE

The historic Feather Market Centre was alive with lights, applause, and high fashion on Saturday night as Sophisticate Models hosted its 36th annual Top Model of the Year Gala.

Over 90 finalists took to the stage across seven age categories, marking another milestone for the renowned modeling institution, now in its 37th year of shaping young talent across the Eastern Cape.

For three months, finalists dedicated themselves to training sessions that refined their poise, professionalism, and confidence, culminating in a dazzling showcase that highlighted the grace and skill Sophisticate Models is known for.

Spotlight on Style and Substance

This year’s competition placed strong emphasis on two key judging criteria: Photographic Modeling and Runway Prowess.

The judging panel featured some of the industry’s most respected names, including Clarise Stander, Ronel Arnoldus, and international photographic and runway model Delon le Roux, each bringing a wealth of experience from pageantry, commercial modeling, and global campaigns.

Chief Judge Morne van der Schyff, along with Trish Basson, Averil Packrisamy, Siphosihle Blanket, and Clarise Stander, assessed contestants live on stage, ensuring every performance was judged with precision and care.

A Legacy of Confidence and Care

For Gail Brown, Owner and Principal of Sophisticate Models, the event represents more than just a competition. It is a celebration of mentorship and empowerment.

“I still love what I do after 37 years,” Brown shared.
“My passion for ramp modeling and working with children began in 1982, when I realised how deeply I cared about helping young people build self-esteem and confidence. I truly believe there’s a place in the modeling industry for every committed, positive, and driven individual.”

Brown credited her success to collaboration and community.

“I couldn’t do this without my team of amazing parents, dedicated teachers, and our incredible committee. Their consistent support and effort make everything possible.”
