Something For Our Cape Town Readers: Review And Giveaway

After over thirty issues of 041ONLINE, we noticed something, Cape Town kept checking in with us, A LOT. This shouldn’t come as a surprise with the amount of 041/021 overlap. Cape Town loves Nelson Mandela Bay and we share the sentiment. We aren’t sure if it’s the family relations, change of pace holiday options, or if it’s a seaside solidarity thing, but we know many of our readers are more 021 than 041, so we thought we’d give back with a new section called FOCUS021.

Every week we intend to share some news and views from Cape Town for those who are there or are heading there for a trip, starting with a review and a giveaway from a new gym that opened up in Salt River: 360 Specialized Training.

360 Specialized Training Opens Up New Gym In Salt River

AS I drive up Durham Avenue, the road is bustling, because Salt River has recently become a hub of new activity. With the expanding CBD, the area has become alive with niche coffee shops, artisanal cafes and gyms. Walking into the big gate, I join the class and hide myself right at the back. I am surprised to see bodies of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels, following along steadily, as the instructer leads us through each exercise, motivating us along the way.

After the session I chat to Chris Walsh, who has invited us along to experience the latest addition to the 360 Specialized Training group, the Salt River branch. Chris has 20 years experience within the fitness industry and leads from the front, creating a more personal interaction.

What is the motivation behind 360 specialized training?

To educate people to live a healthy lifestyle through exercise. Our functional training makes you competent in everyday activities and enhances sporting performance.

Which fitness level does the training cater to?

All levels, as the training can be adapted via progressions and regressions. This allows novices to train alongside athletes, which is unique to us, and provides you with phenomenal results.

What can someone expect from their first class?

The class is a mixture of lifting, kettlebells, HIIT & calisthenics. As you are working on varying aspects the overload isn’t too intense, making you crave more. The more you learn, the harder the workout becomes.

What is the goal of 360 specialized training?

To make training part of a balanced lifestyle with a huge focus on community. This provides a productive environment to workout and meet other health-minded people.

What would you say to someone hesitant to start?

Everyone has to start somewhere, so just begin. Your body is your most valuable asset, so spend time investing in it. A strong body and healthy mind will enhance every aspect of your being.

For our amazing readers, Chris has offered a free week of training, to experience the gym in person:
