The school holidays have flown by, and just like that, the first day of the new school term is here.
If tomorrow morning already feels a little overwhelming, don’t worry. A few minutes of preparation tonight could make all the difference when the alarm goes off.
Here’s your last-minute checklist before everyone heads back to school.
1. Pack school bags tonight
Make sure books, homework, stationery, sports gear and any important forms are already packed. Future you will be grateful.
2. Lay out the uniforms
Check that everything is clean, ironed and ready to go, including socks, shoes and jerseys. It saves a surprising amount of stress in the morning.
3. Charge every device
If your child needs a laptop, tablet or calculator for school, put it on charge before bed.
4. Prep tomorrow’s lunch
Whether you make lunch tonight or simply gather everything in one place, it’ll make the morning much easier.
5. Fill the water bottles
Pop them in the fridge overnight so they’re cold and ready to grab on the way out.
6. Set more than one alarm
The first morning back can be rough after the holidays. A backup alarm is never a bad idea.
7. Check tomorrow’s weather
Knowing whether to pack a rain jacket, hat or extra jersey can save a last-minute scramble.
8. Leave a little earlier
Expect more traffic around schools as everyone settles back into their routines. Giving yourself an extra 10 to 15 minutes could make the school run much smoother.
9. Expect a few emotions
Some children can’t wait to see their friends again, while others may be feeling nervous. A little encouragement and reassurance can go a long way.
10. Remember, perfection isn’t the goal
Someone might forget a pencil, a lunchbox or even a shoe. It happens. The first day back is about settling into the routine again.
Here’s to a great new term
Whether you’re a learner, parent, teacher or caregiver, tomorrow marks the start of a fresh chapter.
From all of us at 041Online, we wish everyone across Nelson Mandela Bay a fantastic first day back and a successful school term ahead. Here’s hoping the lunches get eaten, the homework gets remembered and the morning coffee is strong enough to get us all through the first day!
