Inganathi Sapepa is making waves as she gears up to compete in the Spar Netball National Championship in Johannesburg from October 28 to November 2, 2024, and she needs our support to get there writes 041Sport columnist Sihle N Sonto.
Her journey with netball started at just nine years old, and she’s been hooked ever since. “I fell in love with it,” she says. “Netball became my happy place.”
Under the guidance of her inspiring coach, Onesimo Mlamla, Inganathi has turned her passion into a relentless pursuit of excellence. “Onesimo believed in me and inspired me to never give up,” she shares. Her commitment is evident in her demanding training schedule, which kicks off at 5:30 AM and includes twice-daily sessions.
Inganathi’s story is one of perseverance and triumph. From overcoming the hurdles of changing coaches to balancing academics with intense training, she has remained focused and driven. Highlights of her career, like her stellar performances with the NMBAY U/19 squad and making it to the semi-finals in the Twizza tournament, showcase her talent and dedication. “Teamwork is crucial. We support each other and communicate constantly,” she says, underscoring the importance of camaraderie in her success.
With dreams of catching the eye of scouts for the U/21 SA team and leading her team to gold medals, Inganathi is on a mission. However, the financial demands of competing at the national level are considerable, and she is reaching out for support. “Any donation or sponsorship is appreciated,” she says, hopeful and determined.
Her balance of academics and athletics is a testament to her discipline. “Academics come first. I attend every class, even after intense training sessions,” she states. Inganathi’s advice for aspiring players is clear: “Don’t stop trying. Believe in yourself, stay dedicated, and be patient. Hard work pays off.”
