Ringo Madlingozi’s “Ikhwelo” Tour Heads to Gqeberha This June

South African music legend Ringo Madlingozi is set to perform at the Boardwalk Convention Centre in Gqeberha on 7 and 8 June, as part of his nationwide Ikhwelo album tour.

The album—his latest in a career spanning over 30 years—features 15 tracks that explore themes of self-love, unity, and national healing. Ikhwelo, meaning “The Call”, reflects both personal and collective introspection, with Ringo collaborating closely with a younger generation of producers to create a blend of familiar Afro-soul and contemporary influences.

Ikhwelo is a call for redirection,” says Madlingozi. “It’s about restoring dignity, spreading love, and remembering that we’re all connected.

Throughout the album, Madlingozi addresses personal growth and social challenges, offering a message of hope. Inspired by Quincy Jones’s idea that music should carry purpose, he approached this project with deliberate intent, choosing to speak to the present moment while honouring the past.

Every time I performed my older songs, I felt this pull—this need to tell new stories, ones that reflect where we are now,” he explains.

The result is an album—and a live performance—that aims to move beyond nostalgia. Ikhwelo blends heartfelt storytelling with a focus on current realities, inviting audiences into a space of reflection and renewal.

Tickets are available via Computicket, starting from R350.
