Ricardo Beukes Returns to Lead Multisure Evergreens Back to Glory

Decorated South Western Districts Super League coach Ricardo Beukes has come full circle, returning to where it all began 25 years ago.

The 50-year-old has been appointed head coach of the historic Multisure Evergreens Rugby Club, marking an exciting new chapter in his storied career. Beukes, who has played a pivotal role in the success of A division powerhouses like Crusaders, is thrilled to be back with the Pacaltsdorp-based club where his journey started.

His return after a 22-year absence has already brought significant changes. Beukes wasted no time in securing Multisure Corporation as a partner, bolstering the club’s efforts as it embarks on a quest for its sixth A division title.

While Evergreens finished at the top of the log in the B division in 2024, earning promotion back to the elite tier, they have struggled to add to their silverware collection in recent years. The arrival of Beukes, coupled with the backing of a new sponsor, signals a determined push to restore the club’s former dominance.

Beukes’ playing career with Evergreens ended at just 27 when he chose to prioritize his growing family. However, rugby was never far from his heart.

“It’s actually a funny story,” he recalled. “About a year after I retired, I went down to the Evergreens fields. The B team’s coaches weren’t around, so the guys asked if I’d help out.”

That moment reignited his passion for coaching, and in 2003, he took the reins as head coach for the first time. His journey led him to title-winning stints with Blanco United and Silverstars before stepping away for eight years. But the game called him back, and in 2019, he guided Crusaders to the Super League A division title.

During that time, he crossed paths with Multisure CEO Denton Goodford, forming a strong professional connection. When Beukes was reappointed as Evergreens coach in November, Goodford was among his first calls.

“I wanted him to get on board because I saw how his business aligned with the Evergreens brand,” he said.

Beukes is optimistic about the club’s future, believing the pieces are falling into place for something special.

“We are still putting the puzzle together, but I’m confident we’re building something great here.”

With 120 registered players, Evergreens’ swift return to the top tier highlights the resilience and depth of talent within the squad.

Goodford echoed this sentiment, saying Multisure’s decision to partner with Evergreens was driven by the club’s strong brand, rich history, and commitment to community upliftment.

As the new Super League season kicks off on April 5, the Multisure Evergreens are also gearing up for the Saldanha Super 8 Easter Tournament from April 17 to 21, determined to make their mark in 2024.
