Riaad Moosa Live at the Boardwalk: The Comedy Doctor Returns

The doctor is in, but this time he’s prescribing two hours of laughter. Award-winning comedian, actor, writer and qualified medical doctor Riaad Moosa is bringing his latest stand-up show, What’s The Point?, to the Boardwalk ICC on Saturday, 4 October.

A Clean, Clever Kind of Comedy

Moosa has carved out a unique space in the comedy world where intellect and humour meet. He’s known for staying away from profanity and explicit language, yet still pushing boundaries with sharp, thoughtful takes on society. His material is a mix of the hilarious and the meaningful, covering everything from politics and race to Bollywood, Islamophobia and even the odd medical overshare (yes, including prolapsed haemorrhoids).

In What’s The Point? Moosa turns his attention to life’s bigger questions. Through his trademark wit, he explores the chaos of our times, the meaning of life and humanity’s role in the universe. He calls it his “lame attempt at being funny and philosophical” but audiences call it comedy gold.

From Medicine to Magic to Microphones

Few comedians have a backstory as unique as Moosa’s. He graduated from UCT’s Medical School in 2001 and worked as a GP for three years. But his comedy career was already brewing during his student days, when he first performed at campus stand-up nights. Just two months into comedy, he won the “One City, Many Comics Talent Competition” and the rest is history.

Before medicine, there was even a stint in magic. Moosa spent three years at the College of Magic in Cape Town, graduating with a silver medallion and a knack for blending tricks with comedy. Although his magic career fizzled out thanks to a badly timed flash photograph, his comedy career was just beginning.

A Career in the Spotlight

Since bursting onto the Cape Town comedy scene, Moosa has become a household name. From his breakthrough performances in the Cape Comedy Collective to TV appearances on shows like Pieter-Dirk Uys’s Evita Live and Dangerous, he’s proven himself as one of South Africa’s most versatile entertainers.

Whether on stage, on screen or behind the mic, Moosa’s gift has always been his ability to connect, turning the everyday into something both hilarious and profound.
