Pearls of Wisdom for Mothers Day from the 041 Team

You always think that being a parent is easy, that is until you have kids of your own. This Mother’s Day we asked Team041 to drop some pearls of wisdom from their own mothers, and here is what they had to say.

Eleanor Douglas-Meyers, Managing Editor

“My mom taught me that you can’t control the wind, but you can always adjust your sails”

Nadine, Fitness Columnist

“If there are 2 things my mom has instilled in me, it’s the value of adventure and always choosing the road less travelled when you do! At 80 years of age, she and my father (96) still refuse to sit still and continue to roam around Europe making new friends and discovering (off the map) places!”

Lelethu, Wine Columnist

“My mother taught me to be resilient when times get hard and to always work hard for yourself, never depend on anyone else for the things you want in life, you’re more than capable of achieving it”

Shereez, Food Columnist

“My mom has taught me many many things but the one that stands out the most is, ‘always make everyone you meet feel seen and loved’. She lived this so naturally and is an amazing example of Love God, Love People”

Busisiwe, Beauty Columnist

“One thing she taught me that stuck with me is to always have humility, people belong to God not you, and kindness never hurt anyone. However, don’t be a doormat”

Veronica, Holistic Columnist

“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. If you don’t ask, the answer will always be NO. Always question intentions”

Luchae, Parenting Columnist

“My mom taught me that if you feel like you’re stuck, change the layout of the furniture in your home – it’s like a breath of fresh air”

Nicole, Minds Columnist

“My mom has taught me so many things, but one of the biggest lessons she’s taught me, that’s influenced my own parenting, is that love each of your children with the same intensity. There are no favourites, not one you are more proud of than the other. You love each person in your life for the value and unique qualities they bring to your own life and growth”

Faziela, Animation Columnist

“If I could take my mom’s top three pearls of wisdom it would be, to trust that God is guiding you all the way and you will never go astray. Be persistent and go after what you want, the worst they can say is no. Lastly, my absolute favourite, self-care is important, if you don’t listen to your body to stop and rest, it will force you to rest, so look after yourself”
