For the first time, the StrongHer International Award is coming to South Africa, and Kouga Local Municipality will be the first to host it.
This global initiative, which began in Birmingham, Alabama, honours unstoppable women who lead, uplift, and quietly change lives. Thanks to a new partnership between Kouga and the City of Birmingham, one incredible woman from our region will be recognised each year, starting this August 2025.
“We’re not just celebrating women. We’re elevating the everyday heroes who aren’t looking for the spotlight, but deserve it,” says Kouga Executive Mayor Hattingh Bornman.
The StrongHer Award has run for seven years in the US, highlighting women making an impact in their communities. Now, Kouga gets to do the same.
Who Can Be Nominated?
Any woman who:
- Lives in the Kouga region
- Is making a real impact in her community
- Leads with authenticity, integrity, and heart
- Is active in current, relevant work
- Has a powerful story with real results
- Isn’t already getting major recognition
How to Nominate Someone
You’ll need:
- Her full name
- Age
- Where she lives
- The name of her initiative or organisation
- A short write-up on why her story matters
