NMBM Launches Siyasebenza: A Metro at Work to Revitalize Service Delivery

A United Effort to Improve Service Delivery

Nelson Mandela Bay is rolling up its sleeves and getting to work! The Siyasebenza Campaign: A Metro at Work officially kicked off in Kariega on Tuesday, 28 January 2025, proving that not even rainy weather can dampen the commitment to improving service delivery and enhancing residents’ daily lives.

Community Collaboration and Immediate Action

This ambitious campaign is more than just a clean-up effort—it’s a call to action for the entire community. Local businesses, non-state organizations, and residents are invited to join forces with the municipality to tackle pressing service issues head-on. From illegal dumping and street cleaning to pothole repairs and public space upgrades, the campaign aims to bring about visible and lasting change.

During the launch, teams of municipal officials and Mayoral Committee Members were deployed across Kariega and Despatch to address critical service gaps. These dedicated teams tackled everything from blocked sanitation infrastructure and water leaks to flood damage and electricity cable theft.

Combating Vandalism and Infrastructure Challenges

One major hurdle threatening progress is vandalism. Officials have raised alarms over the increasing destruction of municipal infrastructure, which not only drains financial resources but also delays much-needed improvements. The Metro is calling on residents to work alongside law enforcement to curb this damaging trend.

Infrastructure and Engineering Acting Executive Director Joseph Tsatsire reinforced the municipality’s commitment to accelerating service delivery. “Our teams are already out there making a difference, from repairing sanitation systems to replacing vandalized infrastructure. We are mobilizing all available resources to ensure that our communities see and feel the impact of this campaign,” he said.

Looking Ahead: A Cleaner, Safer Metro for All

As Siyasebenza gains momentum, the Metro is dedicated to fostering a culture of collaboration, resilience, and proactive service delivery. By targeting key areas and maintaining consistent efforts, the initiative aims to create lasting improvements, ensuring a cleaner, safer, and more functional Nelson Mandela Bay for everyone.
