THE best part about having options is that you can choose what you want to watch, but sometimes, it’s nice to see what everyone else is watching. Even better, it opens your viewing horizons to maybe explore movies and shows you would never have given a second glance at before. Here are the Top 5 trending shows on Netflix South Africa…. Let’s go!
Who is Erin Carter?

A British woman’s tranquil life in Barcelona spirals out of control when an armed robbery at a supermarket exposes her secret… and violent past. As Erin’s maternal instincts kick in, she wonders if this is just her motherly intuition or if her past is coming back to haunt her.
Expect a typical plot line but carried out masterfully by the amazing cast. It may seem a little slow and expected, but as the season progresses, it will keep you wanting to know more. Many reviews have stated that the show needs to return for a second season, thus being the number 1 trending show on Netflix this week.
Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones

Travel around the world with author Dan Buettner to discover five unique communities where people live extraordinarily long and vibrant lives.
Most people hope they’ll live a long, healthy, and happy life, but few are able to travel the world in an attempt to reverse-engineer the formula for longevity. That’s exactly what Dan Buettner did: Beginning in the early aughts, Buettner collaborated with National Geographic, scouring the globe in pursuit of places where people live much longer than average, and thus, the concept of “Blue Zones” came to be.
In a world currently facing its umpteenth crisis, it’s nice to see a show take a light-hearted approach to ‘living life to the fullest’. Reiterating things we are already aware of, reminds us of the simplicities of life and how to not spend our wasting away online.
The Ultimatum: Marry or Move

Nick and Vanessa Lachey encourage couples to put their love to the test while having encounters with other potential matches.
Couples are given 8 weeks to meet their potential matches and then decide if their relationship is worth pursuing, or if it would be better to call it quits.
If reality TV is your guilty pleasure, then give this show a shot. If not for the drama and the emotions that will surely fly, then for the drama. Because that will surely be available in bucket loads.
Ragnarok

A small Norwegian town experiencing warm winters and violent downpours seems to be headed for another Ragnarok — unless somebody intervenes in time.
Going for its third season, Ragnarok is Norse mythology but takes place in a modern world.
If you absolutely love Norse Mythology (think Vikings but modern) then this is for you. Many shows get a bad reputation for twisting traditional stories without paying homage to the original story. However Ragnarok does it beautifully by incorporating it in a way that does it justice.
Painkiller

The causes and consequences of America’s opioid epidemic unfold in this drama following its perpetrators, victims and an investigator seeking the truth.
Not to be taken as fact, Painkiller explores the topic of big pharma and the ease with which addiction can start. The show offers a great perspective on the tragedy of the opioid epidemic with minimal fluff but will leave you asking many questions once the show has ended.
A very pertinent issue globally, as people battle with rising food costs and other pandemics, the show really rallies around the divide between those who can afford to get themselves out of this predicament vs. those who cannot.
Which show will you be watching first this weekend?
