Nelson Mandela Bay is set to play a pivotal role in global diplomacy this year as it hosts several key G20 meetings. Following South Africa’s assumption of the G20 Presidency in December 2024, Gqeberha is preparing to welcome some of the world’s most influential leaders and decision-makers to its shores.
The G20, a global forum of 19 member countries, represents a staggering 85% of global GDP and 75% of global trade. This prestigious group addresses some of the most pressing challenges facing the world, such as employment, digital economies, trade, and women’s empowerment. As part of its leadership role in the G20, South Africa will host numerous meetings throughout 2025, and Gqeberha has been chosen as a key location for these influential gatherings.
Gqeberha: A Hub for International Dialogue
In a historic moment for the city, Gqeberha will host the first of these meetings – the Employment Working Group (EWG) meeting – from 18 to 21 February 2025 at the Boardwalk ICC. This event is the first of several critical discussions to take place in Nelson Mandela Bay over the course of the year, further solidifying the city’s growing reputation as a destination for international collaboration.
In addition to the Employment Working Group, Gqeberha will host the following high-level gatherings:
- Digital Economy Working Group – 8 to 12 April 2025
- Employment Working Group Ministerial Meeting – 25 to 26 July 2025

These events will allow Nelson Mandela Bay to showcase its strengths, while addressing key global challenges, including employment, digital innovation, trade, investment, and women’s empowerment.
