Millennial Networking Session Calls For Wine And Potting Lessons

MILLENIALS are invited to improve both their networking and gardening skills at Sherwood garden centre next weekend. (June 3).

The event is the brainchild of Gqeberha born Nolunthanda Lupuwana, the founder and creative director of Godmothersupreme Management, a consulting and advisory agency which specialises in Digital content creation, creative project management, conferencing and workshop hosting. She started the agency in 2021 as a way to promote creatives around the country and especially in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Her latest event is entitled Plant Potting for Millennials, and sees millennials – those born between 1981 to 1996 getting together to network while learning the nitty gritty of planting and maintaining a mini herb garden.

The R120 ticket includes snacks and potting supplies with participants allowed to bring along their favourite bottle of wine.

Events directly aimed at millennials are not a common occurrence, but according to Lupuwana, she wants to tap into what different age groups in the Bay are looking for and is hoping to take some of the awkwardness out of traditional networking events.

“I am trying to start conversations in different parts of the Bay. In order to get the right kind of insights and feedback, I decided to segment the target market according to generation gaps so that we can ask the right kinds of questions in order to get relevant feedback and insights,” she said.

Those in attendance can expect to learn how to plant a herb garden, while they network and engage with peers which could lead to referrals, leads and collaborations.

The workshop will be run by Sherwood Garden Centre, which is known for its botanical expertise.

“As a millennial surrounded by other millennials, I can safely say we’re in the wellness and sustainability era of our lives. The idea is to learn how to do something now that will lead to benefits in the future. So by planting a herb or connections now,  with maintenance and nurture, you can reap the benefits of what you have planted..if that makes sense lol,” she said.

According to Lupwana, this is the first of a range of “low-fuss networking events”.
