Love Story, Gqberha’s collaborative charity

LOVE Story is a relief organisation, established in 2012 to assist marginalised communities through feeding schemes, education programmes, clothing distribution and poverty alleviation.

Love Story believes in building a family and partners with other community projects to achieve this. They support these projects by supplying food, volunteer participation, clothing distribution, community revamps, educational upliftment and support groups.

They have various projects that offer opportunities for volunteers and donors to assist.

Hospital Outreach

The maternity ward at Dora Nginza Hospital sees hundreds of women pass through its doors, many from extreme poverty and difficult circumstances. These women usually leave the hospital with nothing for their babies.

Over the past few years, Love Story has distributed hundreds of gift bags to new mothers at the hospital. They have also revamped wards, mothers’ rooms, and nurses’ tea rooms and donated hundreds of new mattresses and blankets for the general ward during COVID-19 with the help of many generous donors.

Community Havens

Over the years Love Story has partnered with over 70 community projects whose work encompasses anything from soup kitchens and early learning centres to food gardens and drug rehabilitation.

Love Story is positioned as the middle man between those wanting to give and those needing to receive.

Feeding Schemes

A large portion of what Love Story does is centred around feeding the hungry. They run a soup kitchen in the city centre every weeknight where they feed up to 200 homeless people. They also supply an additional 70 township kitchens with ingredients to feed their communities every week.

Donations towards these feeding schemes go toward the purchasing of ingredients to help run the soup kitchen.

Early Childhood Development

Love Story supports ECD centres in disadvantaged areas, many of which are run with inadequate training and resources. Love Story provides support in the form of complete revamps, training, as well as building centres from the ground up with help from corporate funders.

They are always in need of assistance and donations such as books, toys and educational equipment.

Love Gardens

Love Story has implemented vegetable gardens alongside the township soup kitchens. This allows the community feeding scheme to be self-sustainable. These Love Gardens are run within the Community Havens and offer an added economic benefit as produce can be sold.

Your assistance goes towards purchasing seedlings, tools and equipment as well as payment for labour to run these essential gardens.

Love Sandwiches

The Eastern Cape has the highest number of social grants given to children under the age of 12, which highlights how many children are living below the poverty line. For many, it means receiving only a daily ration.

Love sandwiches supply bread to underprivileged Early Learning Centres around Gqeberha.
