At the Women’s Circle end-of-year event, Nambitha Ben-Mazwi reminded us why she is one of South Africa’s most powerful creative voices.
Fresh from filming in Zurich, where she learned Swiss German in two days, and known for mastering an American accent for Black Mirror almost overnight, the Collegiate alum and first South African woman with six Netflix credits spoke with warmth, honesty and the kind of clarity that only comes from deep alignment. These are the lessons she left with us.
1. Purpose has a glow, and you can see it when someone is aligned.
“When you’re living your purpose, you will never tire. There’s a different glow that comes with alignment.”
2. Check in with yourself like a CEO.
She does quarterly life audits.
“What is my mandate? What is my objective? Am I still aligned?”
3. Be brave enough to ask the hard mirror questions.
She faced herself with:
“Are you happy? Are you living your purpose? Lord, am I still living in alignment?”
4. Bold steps come before the plan.
She said, “I resigned without a plan. I just knew God was nudging me.”
Faith first. Strategy later.
5. You can start in PE and land on global stages.
“I am a product of every PE woman who instilled something in me.”
She carries her hometown in every achievement.
6. Discipline will take you where motivation cannot.
“I wake up at 4 a.m. to pray, to meditate and prepare for the day. That’s my anchor.”
7. Reinvent yourself without fear.
From corporate to radio to digital marketing to presenting to acting.
“I never wanted to get too comfortable.”
8. Say yes, then figure it out.
On new roles and scary challenges:
“I’ll say yes and learn on the job.”
American accent? Yes.
Swiss German in 48 hours? Yes.
9. Listen to the unction.
“That inner voice is God. That discomfort is direction. Listen to it.”
10. Be an example of God’s unlimited glory.
She said, “I want people to say, if she could do it, then I can see what God can do through me too.”
11. Give back always.
Her platform, #shespeaksbyladynam , exists because,
“There is power in sharing your story. It plants seeds.”
12. Brand yourself properly.
“Know how to present yourself. Know what you carry.”
