A Despatch charity initiative, born out of personal struggle, continues to reach out to the community, this time around with a family day.
The family day which takes place this weekend (June 4, 2023) at Innibos Kuierplek is the latest fundraising project run by Lending a Hand Despatch to fund their soup kitchen and assist local families.
According to Celeste Rossouw who started the organisation in October last year, the initiative was started through her desire to “pay it forward”.
“I started Lending A hand despatch after going through a very bad patch in my life financially. After a long struggle, We were blessed and I decided it’s my turn to pay it forward and help wherever I can, no matter how small I know we can make a difference,”
She started the organisation with a Facebook page which quickly grew as the community shared her passion.
“My first big event was the Christmas Food Drive where with the help of the community and Afrisave, I was able to hand out food parcels to local families and we also had a Christmas party for children in our area. Each child got a gift from Santa on the day of the party as well as a party pack and extra treats. The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive. 30 children attended the party,” she shared.
Lending a Hand aims to help people in their community with clothes, shoes, toys and other items.
“Where there is a need, we try and fulfil that need. We also run a soup kitchen and the aim is the do this once a week but unfortunately I am solely dependent on sponsors and donations from the public,” said Rossouw.
This weekend’s event aims to generate funds for the soup kitchen while giving local businesses an opportunity to make more money and get exposure.

“Any donations or sponsors from individuals or companies will help dearly whether it’s old clothes that you are sorting out, bedding or curtains you are no longer needing. Basically, anything (and toys for the children)around the house that you are no longer using, there are folks out there that will be very grateful for those items.
