Lake Farm Centre Charity Run Returns for Its 31st Edition in Gqeberha

The much-loved Lake Farm Centre Charity Run returns to Nelson Mandela Bay on Saturday, 7 March 2026, promising another memorable morning of fitness, community spirit and fundraising for a very worthy cause.

Now in its 31st year, the annual event continues to grow in popularity. In 2025, more than 1,200 participants crossed the finish line across the three race categories — a number organisers hope to surpass this year.

Hosted at the picturesque Lake Farm Centre in Gqeberha, the event offers three race options to cater for everyone, from seasoned athletes to families looking for a fun morning outdoors.

Race Options for Every Fitness Level

Participants can choose between three events:

  • 25km Rolf Kordes Endurance Challenge
  • 10km Run
  • 5km Fun Walk/Run

The 10km and 25km races form part of the EP Athletics Participation League, making them appealing to competitive runners as well.

The 25km race is once again dedicated to Ralph Kordes, a former world-class athlete from the region who is now living with dementia. The endurance challenge also serves as a perfect training opportunity for runners preparing for the Two Oceans Marathon or the Comrades Marathon.

Race logistics will be managed by Elite Athletics Club, ensuring a professionally organised event.

Supporting a Legacy of Care

The Charity Run is the flagship fundraiser for Lake Farm Centre, an organisation that has been providing care and support for adults with intellectual disabilities for more than 65 years.

The centre’s story began in 1959, when a group of concerned parents envisioned a safe and nurturing home where their children could live meaningful and independent lives. Today, Lake Farm Centre continues to provide a supportive village environment where residents can thrive with dignity, purpose and belonging.

Funds raised from the charity run go directly toward supporting the centre and its residents.

A Family-Friendly Country Outing

The event is not just about running — it’s also a wonderful country outing for families and friends.

Visitors can enjoy:

  • Fresh scones and cream at the famous Lake Farm Coffee Shop
  • Pancakes and boerewors rolls
  • A visit to the Charity Shop and Book Store

All finishers will receive a special handmade medal created by the residents of Lake Farm Centre, making the experience even more meaningful.
