KOUGA Municipality is in the process of upgrading the vandalized waste water treatment works (WWTW) in KwaNomzamo, Humansdorp at a cost of close to R42,36 million.
The18-month initiative aims to not only increase the treatment capacity of the plant, but also to remove impediments hindering the progression of the KwaNomzamo 400 housing project.
“Incorporating state-of-the-art treatment technologies and processes, the upgraded waste water treatment works will play a crucial role in unblocking the development pipeline for the KwaNomzamo 400 housing project,” said Kouga Executive Mayor, Hattingh Bornman.
“The increased treatment capacity of 2.5Ml/d and efficiency will provide the necessary infrastructure support for new residential areas – contributing to the municipality’s efforts to address housing demands in a rapidly growing community.”
The scope of work includes, but is not limited to, a new mechanical front rake, new washer compactor, new ultrasonic level detector, new sludge pumps, new gearbox and motors, and the replacement of the clarifiers wire plates and baffle plates.
It, furthermore, includes the refurbishment of the bridge structure and the reinstatement of the sludge dewatering belt press. A new security fence will also be erected.
“By upgrading its waste water treatment plant and unblocking housing projects, the municipality is not only investing in its present, but also laying the foundation for a resilient and prosperous future – underscoring the municipality’s commitment to economic growth for all,” said Bornman.
